Hunohu Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ETC Software, LLC (“ETC Software,” “Hunohu,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information in connection with the Hunohu website (hunohu.com) and the Hunohu application (together, the “Service”). Hunohu helps people organize, manage, and communicate with people they know in specific, often temporary contexts — referred to in the Service as “Circles.”
By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Policy. If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the Service.
1. Who We Are
Hunohu is owned and operated by ETC Software, LLC. References to “we,” “us,” and “our” in this Policy mean ETC Software, LLC.
2. Scope: A Service for the United States
Hunohu is designed for, marketed to, and operated primarily for individuals located in the United States. We do not direct the Service to residents of the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland (collectively, “Europe”), and we do not knowingly target Hunohu’s marketing, advertising, or features to individuals located in Europe.
Because Hunohu is available over the public internet, we cannot prevent an individual located in Europe from creating an account. If you access or use the Service from Europe, you do so on your own initiative, and you acknowledge that the Service is not designed around, and we do not represent that it complies with, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, or similar foreign data protection frameworks. That said, we will make commercially reasonable efforts to honor legitimate requests to access, correct, or delete personal information consistent with Section 13 of this Policy, regardless of where you are located.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information You Provide to Us
- Account information: your name, email address, phone number, username, password, and similar registration details.
- Profile and Circle content: photos (including profile photos), display names, biographical details, and other content you choose to post, upload, or share within a Circle.
- Contacts: if you use our contact-import feature, the phone numbers, names, and/or email addresses in your device’s address book, which we use to help you find and invite people you know to Hunohu or a Circle. We only access your contacts with your permission.
- Messages: the content of messages you send to other users through the Service’s in-app messaging features.
- Communications: information you provide when you contact us for support, feedback, or other correspondence.
3.2 Information We Collect Automatically
When you use the Service, we (and our service providers) automatically collect certain information, including:
- Device and log information, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and time zone.
- Usage information, such as pages or screens viewed, features used, links clicked, and the dates and times of your activity.
- Information collected through cookies, web beacons, tags, SDKs, and similar tracking technologies (“Tracking Technologies”), as described in Section 4 below.
3.3 Information About Others
Hunohu is built around Circles of people you know, which means content you post may include personal information about other people, including individuals who are not Hunohu users. For example, a parent may post a headshot photo and the name of their own child in a Circle used to organize parents of children in the same class — without that child having, or being permitted to have, a Hunohu account or profile of their own (see Section 9). If you submit information about another person, you represent that you have the right to do so and any consent required to share that information with us and with other members of the relevant Circle.
4. Cookies, Tracking Pixels & Online Advertising
We and our third-party partners use cookies, tracking pixels (such as the Meta/Facebook Pixel and Google Ads tag), and similar Tracking Technologies to operate the Service, understand how it is used, and to advertise Hunohu to you and others across other websites, apps, and platforms — commonly known as retargeting or behavioral advertising. For example, if you visit hunohu.com or use the app, you may later see an ad for Hunohu on Facebook, Instagram, Google, or another site.
We do not permit third-party advertisers to advertise their own products or services to you within the Service. The advertising described in this section is limited to advertising Hunohu and its own features.
You have choices about online tracking and advertising:
- Browser and device controls: most browsers and mobile devices let you block or delete cookies and limit ad tracking in your settings.
- Platform opt-outs: you can opt out of interest-based ads from participating companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance (optout.aboutads.info), the Network Advertising Initiative (optout.networkadvertising.org), and directly within your Facebook, Google, and other platform ad settings.
- California/state opt-out rights: see Section 13 for information about opting out of “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under California and other state privacy laws.
We do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals because there is no accepted industry standard for how to interpret them. Where required by law, we honor recognized opt-out preference signals (such as Global Privacy Control) as a request to opt out of sharing your information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. How We Use Your Information
- Create and maintain your account, and operate the core features of the Service, including Circles and messaging;
- Personalize and improve the Service, including troubleshooting, analytics, and research;
- Communicate with you, including service updates, security alerts, and support;
- Market and advertise Hunohu to you and to others, including through the retargeting described in Section 4;
- Moderate content and enforce our Terms of Service and community guidelines, including reviewing reports and removing content or users (see Section 10);
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents; and
- Comply with applicable law, legal process, and our contractual obligations.
6. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: companies that help us operate the Service, such as cloud hosting, analytics providers (e.g., Google Analytics), customer support tools, and advertising/retargeting partners (e.g., Meta and Google, for the purposes described in Section 4). These providers may only use your information to provide services to us.
- Other users: information you post within a Circle (such as your profile, photos, or messages) is visible to other members of that Circle, consistent with the Service’s design and your settings.
- Legal and safety reasons: to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests from public authorities, enforce our Terms of Service, or protect the rights, property, or safety of Hunohu, our users, or others.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets involving ETC Software, LLC or any of its affiliated brands.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- Profile and Circle settings: you can review and update most of your account and profile information directly within the Service.
- Marketing communications: you can opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in those emails.
- Tracking Technologies: see Section 4 above.
- Access, correction, and deletion: you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us as described in Section 15, in addition to the self-service tools described in Section 8.
8. Account Deactivation and Deletion
You can deactivate or permanently delete your Hunohu account at any time, either using the account settings within the Service or by contacting us at the email address in Section 15.
- Deactivating your account temporarily hides your profile and content from other users; we retain your information so your account can be restored if you choose to reactivate it.
- Deleting your account is permanent. Once you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are permitted or required to retain certain information — for example, to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, or maintain security and fraud-prevention records. Content you shared within a Circle (such as messages already sent to other users) may remain visible to other Circle members after deletion, as is inherent to a messaging or social feature.
9. Children’s Privacy and Content Involving Minors
Hunohu is not directed to, and is not intended for use by, children. You must be at least 18 years old to create a Hunohu account, and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to register for or maintain an account or profile. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Because Hunohu Circles are often organized around real-life relationships — for example, a Circle for parents of children in the same class — an adult account holder may post limited information about a child, such as the child’s name and a photo, in the context of that Circle. Children do not have their own Hunohu accounts or profiles, are not permitted to use the Service, and are not Hunohu’s intended audience. By posting information about a child, the adult account holder represents that they are the child’s parent or legal guardian, or otherwise have the legal authority and any necessary consent to share that information.
If we learn that we have collected personal information directly from a child under 13 in violation of this Policy, or if a parent or guardian believes their child’s information has been posted without appropriate authority, please contact us at the email address in Section 15 so we can investigate and remove it as appropriate.
10. Community Guidelines and Moderation
We want Circles to be safe, respectful spaces. If a user believes another user is behaving inappropriately or violating our Terms of Service or community guidelines, they can flag or report that user or their content directly within the Service. We review reports and may take action in response, including removing content, warning a user, or suspending or permanently removing a user’s account. We may retain records related to reports, moderation decisions, and removed content as needed to enforce our policies, ensure safety, and comply with legal obligations.
11. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, and afterward for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy — such as complying with legal obligations, resolving disputes, enforcing our agreements, and maintaining security records — unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.
12. Data Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. California and Other U.S. State Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), gives you certain rights with respect to your personal information, including the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected, used, and disclosed about you, and the categories of sources, purposes, and third parties involved;
- Delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions;
- Correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you;
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information. We do not sell personal information. We do “share” certain information (such as online identifiers collected through cookies and pixels) with advertising partners for cross-context behavioral advertising, as described in Section 4, and you may opt out of that sharing at any time by emailing us at support@hunohu.com or adjusting your cookie and ad-platform settings as described in Section 4; and
- Non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
Residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws (such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and others as they take effect) may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of certain processing of their personal information, including targeted advertising. You can exercise any of these rights by contacting us using the information in Section 15. We may need to verify your identity before responding to your request, and you may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf where permitted by law.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date above and, where required by law, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after a change becomes effective constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
